Rabbi Andrew Rosenblatt

Rabbi Andrew Rosenblatt has been the spiritual leader of Schara Tzedeck since 2003.  A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Rabbi Rosenblatt is the great-grandson of renowned chazzan and composer Yossele Rosenblatt, and grandson of Rabbi Dr. Samuel Rosenblatt.

Rabbi Rosenblatt graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry and English literature, and a Masters of Science in bioorganic chemistry.  After completing his secular studies, Rabbi Rosenblatt spent two years in Yeshivat Har Etzion in Israel and subsequently received semicha from Yeshiva University in New York.   Before coming to Vancouver, Rabbi Rosenblatt served as the assistant rabbi in Congregation Ahavath Torah in Englewood, New Jersey before taking the helm at Schara Tzedeck.

Rabbi Rosenblatt is married to Dr. Cirelle Rosenblatt, a neuropsychologist, and they have five children. Rabbi Rosenblatt sees his mission at Schara Tzedeck as making Torah resonate with the experiences of modern life, and draws on his extensive academic and Torah education, as well as his creativity to put this vision into reality.

Associate Rabbi Shlomo Schachter

Rabbi Shlomo Schachter received his Smicha in 2014 from Rabbi Riskin of Efrat after spending nine years studying in Israel.  He identifies as a Modern Orthodox Breslever Chassid and strives to draw on the experiential piety of chassidut in order to face the challenges of the contemporary world.  He particularly enjoys DIY mitzvah projects such as doing his own Shechita, making shofrot and homemade Matza and tying Tzitzit. As a former football player and coach of Israel's national football team he also integrates his experience in team sports into building spiritual community. He comes to us after five years serving as the OU-JLIC rabbi at the University of Illinois

Reverend Joseph Marciano, Torah Reader and Funeral Director

It is hard to think of Schara Tzedeck without thinking of Joseph Marciano.  Originally from Casablanca, Morocco, Joseph has spent more than 30 years as at the heart of the synagogue’s religious services, and the nexus between the synagogue and the cemetery.  In addition to general oversight of the services and reading Torah, Joseph acts as the shul’s masghiach.  He has prepared hundreds of bar mitzvah boys for their big day, and is already teaching his second generation of celebrants.

As funeral director of the Schara Tzedeck Cemetery Board Joseph facilitates all aspects of burials, and provides gentle comfort and bereavement support.  Joseph Marciano can be reached directly at 604-603-7164.

Joseph and his wife Simone, who also assists with masghiach duties, are the proud parents (and in-laws) of four children, and grandparents of eight grandchildren.
